From Inverness airport:
Leave airport & take the A96 West towards Inverness with 2 possible options.
Option 1:
Continue on A96 into Inverness & then follow the road signs to Fort William on the A82.
This route will take you down follows the Northern part of the Caledonian Canal & the mystic Loch Ness, so keep eyes open for any strange ripples in the water & sightings of the loch’s resident, Nessie! Drive down the West side of the Great Glen, passing Urquhart Castle visitor centre & then to the picturesque village of Fort Augustus at the end of Loch Ness. As you drive through Fort Augustus, a set of lock gates can be seen which allows marine traffic to be raised up to enter the next section of the Caledonian Canal & eventually into the smaller, but scenic Loch Oich. Continue through the village & along the A82 with the village of Invergarry & the lodge only another 10 to 15 minutes drive.
Option 2:
Continue towards Inverness & at the Eastern edge of the city, take the A9 South for Perth until you reach the exit for B851 (B862) to Fort Augustus. Once reaching the Eastern edge of Fort Augustus, take the turning on the left onto the A82 towards Fort William with the village of Invergarry & the lodge only another 10 to 15 minutes drive.
This route will take you down the East side of the Great Glen & is a more scenic drive with spectacular views changing as you head South West into the more rugged & mountainous highlands. As this route is along ‘B’ class roads, some stretches are narrow with passing places, but in other parts wide & straight for 2-way traffic with less slow traffic that can be found down the West side. Just before reaching the village of Fort Augustus, there are also view point parking where you can stop & take in the splendour & vastness of Loch Ness. The largest freshwater loch / lake in the UK, stretching for around 23 miles / 37 kilometres & depth of 788 feet / 240 metres.
From Glasgow airport:
Leave airport & take the M8 West until exit towards Erskine Bridge. Once across the bridge, take exit on left for A82 North towards Crianlarich & Fort William. Once reaching the Southern edge of Fort William, continue following the A82 towards Inverness alongside the Southernmost Great Glen’s lochs, Loch Lochy, with the village of Invergarry & the lodge only another 35 to 40 minutes drive.
This route heading North of Glasgow truly is scenic with the initial part of drive passing alongside the “Bonnie Bonnie Banks” of Loch Lomond & then through the stunning mountains in Glen Coe.
From Edinburgh airport:
Leave airport & take the M9 West towards Stirling with 2 possible options.
Option 1:
Take the A84 towards Callander then onto Lochearnhead to junction with A85 along “Rob Roy Way” heading to Crianlarich to next junction with A82 heading North towards & through Glencoe following signs to Fort William. As above, once reaching the Southern edge of Fort William, continue following the A82 towards Inverness alongside the Southernmost Great Glen’s lochs, Loch Lochy, with the village of Invergarry & the lodge only another 35 to 40 minutes drive.
This route heading North West from Edinburgh has multiple attractions of Stirling Castle, (William) Wallace Monument, The Trossachs National Park & the stunning mountains in Glen Coe.
Option 2:
Take the A9 North from Stirling until reaching Dalwhinnie & take the A889 then to junction with A86 towards Spean Bridge. Upon reaching Spean Bridge, continue through the village to the junction with A82 & go right heading North towards Inverness & the village of Invergarry & the lodge only another 15 to 20 minutes drive.
This route leaves the flatter central belt into the highlands of Scotland, passing by the city of Perth with the nearby 1,000 year old Scone Palace, the ancient crowning place of Scottish kings. Continue heading North on the A9 passing Blair Atholl with the nearby & impressive Blair Castle, the ancestral home of Clan Murray. Dalwhinnie & its distillery is just further along the A9, in truly dramatic wilderness which continues as you drive over the Monadhliath Mountains heading to the Northern tip of Loch Laggan then through Glen Spean until reaching the village of Spean Bridge. Just North of the village, sits the Commando Memorial dedicated to the original British Commando Forces which were raised in 1942 & the statue overlooks their training areas.
From Aberdeen airport:
Leave the airport & take the directions North West towards Inverness on the A96 with 2 possible options.
Option 1:
Continue to Huntly & take the exit to Dufftown on A920, once reaching the village, take the A941 North to Craigellachie. Once reaching Craigellachie, take the A95 South towards Grantown-On-Spey then onto the junction of the A9 near Aviemore. At the junction, head North towards Inverness & continue on A9 until the exit for B851 is reached to Fort Augustus. Continue along B851 then B862 to Fort Augustus, once reaching Eastern edge of Fort Augustus, take the turning on the left onto the A82 towards Fort William with the village of Invergarry & the lodge only another 10 to 15 minutes drive.
This route heading North West from Aberdeen has multiple attractions such as Castle Trail & Malt Whisky Trail with likes of Balvenie Castle & Glenfiddich Distillery located in Dufftown, . Slightly further ahead is the River Spey at Charlestown of Aberlour where salmon fishing can be done with a license in Scotland’s fastest flowing river.
Option 2:
Continue on A96 into Inverness & then follow the road signs to Fort William on the A82.

BY TRAIN
The nearest train station to the lodge is at Spean Bridge on the West Highland Line from either Inverness or Glasgow stations. Onward travel of the 16 miles to Glen Albyn Lodge is then required from Spean Bridge Station.
